PROCEDURE FOR COMMUNICATING WITH PERSONS

OF LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY (April 2017)

 

 

It is the policy of TOTS’N’TEENS PEDIATRICS to provide communication aids (at no cost to the person being served) to Limited English Proficient (LEP) persons, including current and prospective patients, clients, family members, interested persons, et.al., to ensure them a meaningful opportunity to apply for, receive or participate in, or benefit from the services offered. The procedures outlined below will reasonably ensure that information about services, benefits, consent forms, waiver of rights, financial obligations, etc., is communicated to LEP persons in a language which they understand. Also, they will provide for an effective exchange of information between staff/employees and patients and/or families are being provided.

 

TOTS’N’TEENS has a relationship with Language Services, St. Louis, MO for multi-lingual services at 1-866-231-3461.

 

In order to ensure effective communication and to protect the confidentiality of patient information and privacy, the patient is informed of these services by posted notice at offices of Tots’N’Teens Pediatrics, 3729 Mary Taylor Road, Birmingham, Alabama. These services of a qualified interpreter are available at no additional cost to patients.

In case of an emergency, one of our physicians is always on call. Call our main number 205-856-4440, our answering service at 205-930-4322, or if needed, take your child to The Children’s Hospital or your nearest Emergency Room.
